Introduction - The Lemon Scented Tea Tree

Lemon Scented Tea Tree (Leptospermum-petersonii) is a subtle lemon scented oil steam distilled from the leaves and small stems. Its main components are Citral and Citronella and has a broad spectrum anti-microbial activity. This meaning it seems to be able to kill any microbe, whether bacterial, viral or fungal. It is thought the LSTT oil somehow affects the integrity of the membranes in all these micro-organisms, so they simply can’t function anymore.(Readers Digest, March 2001). For some time now Tea Tree Oil was trusted enough to become standard issue in the first aid kits of Australian soldiers for bites and infections during WWII. Modern anti-biotics gradually overtook the traditional Aussie cureall.
